I’m married to a tiny town entrepreneur, living the quirky small town life, with BIG dreams, a hundred projects and business ideas on my bucket list, an adorable family, and I have found happiness in the last place on earth I ever thought I would put down roots, Richland County Ohio.
My name is Natalie, and I’m thrilled to share this little blog with you. I was born in North Carolina, grew up in the great food city of Louisville, Ky, went to college in Louisville and then Hawaii, met my husband while we were both living in Southern California, and then I moved to his hometown in the middle of Ohio to be with him. My husband knows I have the wanderlust bad, and the best way to keep me from running off, is to let me cook whatever I want (Just kidding…kind of).
About my Family
My wonderfully supportive husband, Matthew, has lived here in central Ohio his whole life. We even go to church with the (now retired) OBGYN who delivered him. Matthew runs his own outdoor Maintenance business and pays me to be a full time mom. He spends a lot of his time volunteering at church and doing whatever good he can in the community. He’s kind of a super hero.
I am the second of six children, my husband is the youngest of 5 (he has all sisters), and we have 3 children of our own. We may have more kiddos because we like big families, but at this moment, we have a 5 year old, Everett, a 3 year old, Quinten, and our little one year old, Genevieve. We are living the small town American dream.
About this Blog
Welcome to House in the Heartland! Instead of trying to lure you in to visiting regularly with platitudes about how we should “enjoy the journey of life” and all that stuff, I’m going to tell you exactly what this blog means to me.
I have a degree in theatre, because the only drama I truly enjoy, is the kind on stage that’s fake. That being said, I seem to have a magnet for crazy, because that is exactly what my life is CRAZY! I have addled my brain by running on overload for so long. As a result, I am actually enjoying this crazy life. WHAT?!?! Weird. But these things that happen are comical, tender, wonderful and not one would believe them and so I thought, let’s do a blog, because things aren’t busy enough. And my wonderful husband, who is quite sane, because he needs to be to keep me (relatively) balanced, has been the best support.
So this blog is me and my life and how I get through life by eating good food, and finding good people, and trying to remember to breath….Ahhhhhhhhh.
If being happier, having greater joy, or just being ok with the crazy that is your life is what you’re after, well, we’re friends, cause I’m on that journey too. So come back, if not for the story, for the food.
First, all photographs of me have been taken by the amazing and talented Javier Romero. Not only did he provide the photography service, but he took the time to teach me about the camera, how to improve my own pictures, and even let me borrow his very nice Canon to get started.
Brady, for going through all of the basics of photography.
David McGlone, who was such a dear and drove almost an hour to sit down with me and teach me the basics of WordPress.
Sean LeuVoy for helping in the design of my header without complaint which at one point was much more complicated.
Corinne Kelley from The Blog Decorator for dealing with code so I didn’t have to try to learn something else new. Thank you for putting together a stunning website.
For all my friends and family who have supported me, encouraged me, been happy for me, and indulged me as I’ve excitedly rambled about the blog.
And of course, Matthew, my husband, my tether. Without him I would float away on ideas, or drown in my projects, I’m not sure which. Thank you for always loving me, supporting me, and spoiling me every time you tell me to “buy the dress” I’m ogling, audition for the play at the community theatre, and get the tickets for that trip. And thank you for not being a picky eater, it makes life more fun that way.
